This is the Highland event for all sailors. Will encompass
3 areas: fast cruising presentations, sail coaching workshops and safety clinics
plus local information for boaters. Main speakers (see notes below) are

surveyor and designer, consultant editor and monthly contributor to Practical
Boat Owner; Chris Owen, sail maker, co-founder of Owen
Sails now Scotland’s largest sail maker; David Ierston,
sales manager of English Braids – Ben Ainslie used their rope to help him win
gold;
Stewart Graham, Director of Gael Force Marine who
tested many of their products sailing single handed this year right around
Britain;
Jamie Hogan, Director of Caley Marina, immensely
experienced in boat systems; and Mike Shepherd an
RYA Coach Assessor and Centre Inspector.

speakers notes:
Andrew Simpson:
Yachting journalist, yacht surveyor and designer. Consultant editor and monthly
contributor to Practical Boat Owner. Author of RYA publications. Andrew has been
designing fast off-shore cruising yachts for over 35 years specialising in boats
for cruising couples with simple and easy to handle controls. He has also
designed successful racing yachts such as Vlad the Impaler winner of this year’s
Three Peaks Race. Andrew ‘lives the dream’ for large parts of the year with his
wife Chele on his own design – Shindig – a 38 foot cutter.
Chris Owen:
Sail maker. Co-founder of Owen Sails in 1984 now Scotland’s largest sailmaker
based in Oban and Gourock. Owen Sails combine the latest design software and
auto-cutting equipment with a team of highly experienced sailmakers to complete
construction.
David Ierston:
Sales manager English Braids. English Braids make first quality ropes for the
yachting trade be it superyachts or dinghies. Their Polilite rope, specially
developed with Rooster Sailing, was used by Ben Ainslie and all the other medal
winners in the Laser at the 2004 Sydney Olympics.
Stewart Graham:
Director of Gael Force Marine. Tested many of the products he sells while
sailing single handed this year right around Britain in his Beneteau First 40.7
Jamie Hogan:
Director of Caley Marina. Immensely experienced in boat systems.
Mike Shepherd:
Has worked as a sailing instructor and coach since 1981 at commercial centres
throughout the UK and Europe. Based in the Highlands for the past 18 years. An
RYA Coach Assessor and Centre Inspector and is also qualified as an instructor
in many other outdoor sports.
